Could it be you've found another game to play...

Well, my Valentine's Day couldn't have been any less romantic. I worked, we ate a nice romantic supper at Wendy's under the flourescent lights while watching the flicker of the Tim Horton's Video menu! Seriously! Timmies has this crazy screen above the counter now instead of a menu! THE FUTURE IS NOW! We talked for a bit about nothing in particular- and i played Jade Empire while Sarah slept. Excitement!

In other news, yesterday was the 24th anniversary of the Ocean Ranger disaster. The Ranger was, at the time, the largest semi-submersible oil drilling platform in the world. In a fierce winter storm with winds over 90 knots, and waves over 18 metres high, the Ocean Ranger was struck, her ballast systems crippled, and capsized. We're talking about the Titanic of offshore rigs here, try to picture something with a deck area larger than two football fields flipping over in the middle of the North Atlantic. Terrifying. all 84 men on board were killed, 56 of them were from Newfoundland. The Ocean Ranger was stationed on the Hibernia oil fields, roughly 300 kilometeres from St. John's. At the time it was the worst nautical disaster to strike Canada since the Second World War - I don't know but it remains so to this day. I'm not sure what it is about The Ocean Ranger that captures my attention - but every year i remember the anniversary, i think perhaps it was the first time in my life that i actually witnessed this sort of thing first hand, and it's always had a profound impact on me. My Godfather was at sea at the time, working on a smaller rig, the Sedco 706, barely 14 kilometers from The Ocean Ranger. To this day the image of an offshore rig at night still creeps me out just a little bit. It's odd.

Meanwhile, in international news, I'm still galavanting around the Jade Empire - 13 hours in now and loving it. This game is better than Knights of the Old Republic! There, i said it! If you own an Xbox, and you like wuxia (you know, like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon?) - giver'! Why oh why did i wait until now to get into this one...

That's all for today, I have a flying mouse to kill, and i need to clean my claws...

Cheers,
Steve
